Oprah’s Next Chapter, Shaquan Duley.

As a Mother I cannot wrap my head around this horrific tragedy. I remember years ago when Oprah interviewed Susan Smith, another Mother has done the unthinkable, she has killed her babies. This is one of those interview where I will have to practice what I have learned from Oprah. Do not judge others.

The interview was done prior to Shaquan Duley’s sentencing. On Friday March 30, 2012 she was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Tune in Sunday night to Oprah’s Next Chapter on OWN Canada to watch the interview. I’m sure there are many people asking themselves how this could happen. Trust me Oprah will get to the bottom of it.

Oprah’s LifeClass in St. Louis

Wow! What an amazing premiere for Oprah’s Life Class Tour in St. Louis.

So many “aha” moments, incredible quotes and powerful moments. By far the moment I will remember most about the premiere of Season 2 of Life Class was when Iyanla Vanzant and Oprah spoke to a man by the name of Steve, who had battled addiction and depression for years. He has been sober for 10 years, but still struggles with feeling worthy of love and acceptance. At one point Oprah and Iyanla asked for audience members to stand up if they have themselves, or have had a family member whose story was similar to Steve’s. Almost the entire audience stood up. Then people on twitter began tweeting #standingwithSteve . It was an incredibly powerful moment. Steve’s story represents so many families in today’s society. Biggest lesson I learned from Iyanla was that ” if you don’t heal the wounds of the past, you will continue to bleed.”

Can’t wait for Oprah’s Life Class in New York City airing Monday April 2 8/7c !

Here is Oprah standing with Steve!

Iyanla Vanzant on Stopping the Pain. Oprah’s LifeClass

Monday night was the beginning of Oprah’s LifeClass season two. Watching Oprah chat with the audience in her zone was a pleasure to see. She is truly a people person. St. Louis was loud an energetic. The lessons taught in class tonight were thought provoking and I’m sure caused lots of conversation amongst friends.

Iyanla Vanzant is a Spiritual Teacher, Best Selling Author and soon to be host of her OWN show. Iyanla is not your typical Teacher. She is up front and has a way of digging into the problem and getting to the core of the issue.

I applaud the guests who can come on national television and share their stories so that we may all learn a lesson from them. Tonight’s lessons from Laurie, a mom of a beautiful autistic son were raw. I felt her pain although I am not sure I realized until after the show that what she was really saying was life comes with struggles. It was apparent that she loved her son and just really needed help in understanding how to deal with the struggles in life when you are the Mom of a child who has a disability. I hope she gets the help she needs and begins to look forward instead of looking back.

Steve, was a brave man who shared with us all the lesson of the story we tell ourselves. “What story do you tell yourself?” I have been thinking about this since Monday. The story can be simple; however the consequences of your story might very well be impacting your life in such a way that you end up accepting your current life as is.

Today ask yourself what story am I telling myself? You might be surprised at the answer. I know I was.

Oprah’s Lifeclass is the largest classroom in the world. While on TV the OWN team are broadcasting it live on the web. I love the fact that OWN has embraced social media and the web. It gives everyone a chance to learn the lessons. You can view the entire episode online. That really is forward thinking in television.

I’ll leave you to watch Oprah’s LifeClass and enjoy a few quotes from the show.

Next stop New York!

“You have got to be willing to lose everything to gain yourself.”

“When you don’t show up as who you are, people fall in love with who you are not.”

“Greatness in contagious!”

“How you treat yourself is how you treat God. You are the representation of God in your life.”

The Ratings are Up for OWN.

I rarely read the negative reviews on OWN and it’s ratings. I am all about positive. So yesterday when I read the news that the OWN 1ST quarter ratings were up I was thrilled to share with you.

Oprah and her OWN Team are working hard to bring us life changing television. As OWN is in the early stages of growth they are really starting to find their grove. It is showing with the increase in ratings. Honestly, if your not watching OWN, why not? You are so missing the opportunity to learn from some of life’s greatest Teachers.

Super Soul Sunday in Canada is a must. Lot’s of people are wanting to watch. I realize that there are CRTC rules that so much of the content on a cable show in Canada has to be Canadian. With the new changes to the CRTC I have my fingers crossed we will get Super Soul Sunday soon!

March 26/12 LifeClass The Tour, Bishop T.D. Jakes Takes us to Church!

March 26/12 LifeClass The Tour, The Beginning.

Yesterday marked the beginning of a journey. LifeClass began with a bang. I really do mean a bang. As an avid watcher of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” I have had many Aha moments over the last 23 years. Yesterday was over the top. I hope you got a chance to watch it. Make the effort, it’s worth it.

It started with Bishop T.D. Jakes. I was not very familiar with Bishop Jakes until I heard him speak yesterday. I soon realized this Man is going to take us to church. I was not expecting him to be so motivating, captivating, and inspirational and a downright get inside your head kind of motivator. He was spectacular! You can watch him on LifeClass on OWN on April 9, 2012, don’t miss it.

Bishop Jakes spoke about living with purpose. I really don’t want to spoil the show for those of you who did not watch the webcast yesterday so I will leave you with some of his quotes until it airs April 9, 2012.

“Passion and Purpose are Partners”

“None of us are an Accident; we are all here on purpose.”

“You have the ability to Shift where you are right now.”

“Don’t stop where you are as if it was the destination. Keep learning.”

“Don’t allow your situation to become your world.”

“Even though you might be physically incarcerated you are not mentally incarcerated.”

“Your life is built around where you have been not where you are going.”

“You need to be around people who make deposits in your life not just withdrawals.”

I could go on and on about Bishop Jakes. It was truly motivating and life changing. I am so looking forward to seeing him in Toronto. I also will be reading his books. I can’t say enough about him. You can view his ministries online every Sunday. Visit his website for more information: http://www.thepottershouse.org

Transcendental Meditation as seen on Oprah’s Next Chapter

Watching Oprah’s Next Chapter last night was a great insight to the benefits of meditation. I was in awe of the people who live in Fairfield, Iowa. What must their daily lives truly be like? Well from the interview Oprah did I would say it looks like a peaceful place to me? I cannot imagine an entire city scurrying twice a day to a dome to meditate. Albeit I find this quite fascinating, a circular town where all the buildings face east towards the rising sun with two golden domes in the city circle that holds thousands of Transcendental Meditates, one for each women and men.

Not only do they meditate twice a day they live in a community where the houses built were inspired by nature. The houses face the east. They are a sustainable community, two large windmills and dozens of solar panels. Looks like the kind of community we all should be living in.

Watching the children meditate was a treat. Hearing the young girl explain that meditation allows her to be confident in whom she is was a wow for me. Maybe we should be teaching all our children to meditate? If meditating helps boost self esteem then I suggest it be in all schools in this Country. I can only imagine the impact that would have on decreasing the number of bullies in our school.

To find out more about Transcendental Meditation and what it’s benefits are go to their website, last night they said they have scholarships for those wanting to learn if you cannot afford the fee. When I searched them in my area I see they are available all over Canada. You can find out more here: http://www.maharishi.ca
